About
Artist Statement
My work explores the theme of home, inspired by my interest in the interior design of the domestic space. Depicting both the interior and exterior of these environments, I highlight the intimate, personal nature of home, emphasizing how architecture and design elements contribute to the emotional significance of these spaces.
My process often begins with photos of places or moments that resonate with me, which serve as a foundation for my work. Primarily working in paint while including some sculptural elements, I aim to capture the comfort and familiarity these spaces evoke. Through this, I seek to create an emotional connection that invites viewers to reflect on the domestic spaces in their own lives.

Artist Bio
Summer Rische is an artist based in Minnesota who is known for depicting domestic space and the feelings of home. She received her BA in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota Morris ('25). She works primarily in acrylic paint on masonite panels yet continues to explore the addition of sculptural elements into her work. The emphasis on home, which presents itself in her work, stems from her longtime interest in the interior design of domestic spaces. Through this interest, she has found inspiration in the work of artists Hilary Pecis and Sophie Treppendahl for their subjects and handling of paint and color. These influences have led Rische to develop a distinct flat style that she incorporates into her paintings. She pulls inspiration for her work from her personal experiences and significant places to create homey atmospheres that radiate a sense of comfort and familiarity.
